Djokovic played excellent and better than Nadal for sure He deserved to have 2 French open titles for sure because it is extremely hard to defeat Nadal at French open He did it twice in 2015 and 2021.

The most brutal and most complete match ever played on clay and in tennis history. And the only two players in the world who have the technical, physical and mental ability play at that level, didn't disappoint. Diego Schwartzman summed it up perfectly when he tweeted, "do these guys even play the same game as us?".

@alyeska Totally agree. If he loses there always has to be a reason other than his opponent playing better. Nadal would be embarrassed to have such pitiful excuses made in his name. As you say, accept that players win and they lose.

@Pietr Piepir Exactly, people trying to act like this match was one of the best matches ever just because it was an historical win for Nole. Had Rafa won then all the Nole fans wouldn’t be saying that, so it’s only Nole fans who are saying that tbh because objectively this match isn’t even in the top 10 for best slam matches. Recency biased is a thing though. The quality in this match wasn’t even that good let’s not kid ourselves here. Rafa wasn’t even moving around right. Off balance hitting awkward shots. Yes this what a great win for Nole and nothing should be taken away from him but man people have overstated this match to be something that it wasn’t. As I have already stated. That 3rd set alone was great but that was it. The 2022 AO final between Rafa and Medvedev was better than this match in every attribute.

@Just Chillin’ Nadal was B level, but still played good and thrashed everybody in the draw prior to facing Novak. He also won titles in Barcelona and Rome. Guy forget said," a little pain in the foot", not broken bones. Djokovic was better on the day and that is thst. Give credit where it is due.

I mean Nadal was struggling with a foot injury, anyone who didn’t know that is ignorantly blissful when commenting. Nadal at his best can’t be beaten on clay, he owns it lol, hence why he’s the greatest on it. Now yes Djokovic played a lot better than he did last year, but the 2013 semi final match between them was the best representation of them both playing at their best. I would suggest anyone who hasn’t already seen it to watch it. The full match is on ELvids.

Djokovic is the best player in the history. Facts prove that. Djokovic has the most weeks as number 1. Djokovic soon has the most slams. Djokovic leads the total h2h vs nadal. Djokovic leads the total h2h vs Federer. Djokovic leads the h2h vs Federer in slams. BUT Nadal leads the h2h vs djokovic in slams (10-7). But it doesn't matter that nadal leads the h2h vs djokovic in slams, since djokovic has the most weeks as #1, and djokovic soon has the most slams, and djokovic leads the total h2h vs Nadal.

@CM Punk Honestly the 2012 AO final was just a gruelling of long rallies and grinding for points, hence why it was their longest match even though their 2018 match went further into the final set, but quality wise the 2018 Wimbledon Semi Final was better imo, but as an overall match I could give the edge to the AO just because Rafa was still in his peak back then and in 2018 he wasn’t. Both astounding matches though!

Never in my entire life have i ever seen a player learn from his own mistakes plus the mistakes of all the former opponents of his opponent, and adjust to that, devise a gameplan around that and execute it to perfection, like Novak did. Interesting to me how they each deployed and got away with a few semi-moon balls (high and slow) -- normally at that level of top pros those shots are just crushed (by women pros as well), even if it's on clay. But I think these were used more later in the match, where rallies were so tiring and it would take extra energy to hit winners off of those high balls. Novak's foot speed of course helped him use those and not get burned.

The biggest edge Novak has over Federer in playing Nadal is that he has a double-handed backhand unlike Federer. Nadal always does a a heavy topspin to Federer backhand causing Federer difficulties and having him resorting to chopping the ball instead of driving or hitting it flat, and Nadal will then pounce. The second is mental strength, in my opinion. I am very happy for Djokovic.

@sixesfullofnines *Yawns* you can’t say anything redeemable now, you already made a clown out yourself. Should of kept in mind that different places around the world have different ways of spelling words. But no your own presumptuousness led you to think that I was being ungrammatical. L’s L’s L’s. Know better for next time now. Anyways I’m done discussing your biased narrative on this. It’s clear that you haven’t been looking at any of this the least objectively as that’s all I was doing. I was giving you objectively statistical facts which I’m afraid you can’t refute. When it comes to stats Nole is definitely the goat it’s not even up for debate. Nole has held all 4 majors twice. Something that Rafa Roger have never done. Nole has won every single ATP tournament twice. Something that Rafa and Roger have never done. Nole has been number one for the most amount of weeks and finished the year world number 1 for 7 years. Something that Rafa and Roger have never done. Nole has gone on a 43-0 match winning streak. Something that Rafa and Roger have never done. So again the facts don’t care about your feelings buddy, they are what they are, and you’d have to be a buffoon to say now that Nole isn’t the statistical goat lol. Does he own every single stat? No Rafa has 2 olympic golds and 2 more slams. Something that Rafa and Roger don’t have, but apart from that Nole pretty much owns every other stat. Overall though Rafa is the goat now because of what he’s done with a chronic foot defect over his career. Even if Nole does win more slams than Rafa he won’t be the true goat because Rafa has a tenacity and fighting spirit that’s never been seen before in the history of any sport. Also because Nole is the best hard court player ever yet Rafa has more US Opens which is a hardcourt. If there was 2 slams on clay like there is with hard courts than Rafa would of already had over 30 slams by now so that does it for me. Most people don’t look at the bigger picture and think of these things. Regardless of your bias though I will say this, Roger had the most beautifully elegant game that tennis had ever seen and will go down as the greatest grass player ever. At his peak he would beat peak Nole on grass but not Rafa as Rafa beat him in the 08 Wimbledon final when Roger was still in his peak but Rafa’s the goat so. As for Nole though, well peak Nole would beat peak Roger on hardcourts and clay, and Rafa on hardcourts, (possibly grass as well). And as for the real goat Rafa, at his peak he would obviously vaporise anyone on clay and beat Roger and Nole on hardcourts (possibly Nole on grass as well) but not against Roger though as he has a better h2h than Rafa on grass and is the grass goat but I digress. At the end of the day there’s lots of different metrics for people that define greatness. If you wanna just go off stats alone then Nole is the goat, if you wanna just go off what a player brings to the court and how beautifully elegant and magic there game is then Roger is the goat. But the most importantly significant metric and stat though is definitely slam count, and at the moment Rafa has the most and played in the least amount of slams out of the 3 as well, and so is therefore the goat, but as I said even if Nole surpasses him, I won’t consider Nole a true goat like Rafa unless he wins an Olympic gold medal and has at least 2 more slams than Rafa, so we’ll just have to wait and see, but I was never hear to play favourites though, just give my opinion from an objective lens. That’s it. Just to respond to what you said though. Pfft that’s actually laughable my guy, Roger was running through Nole like butter before Nole was anywhere near his best lol so that’s a meaningless and invalidated thing to say. Post 2011 Nole destroyed Roger and let’s not forget he has a 3-0 record against Roger at Wimbledon. There’s a 6 year difference between the two so saying things like that are utterly pointless but statistically Nole peaked higher than Roger and had a tougher era. Have a nice day. 🤚🏻

My most favourite Novak matches are always when he’s up against Nadal. You could always expect a very physical game between these two. This one’s up there with AO 2012. This match should’ve been the match in the finals instead.

roljavi
roljavi Πριν 7 μήνες
@turner That quote is 100% correct. Djokovic was preparing for 2011 just to beat Nadal because of Nadal's 2010 season. Djokovic beat Nadal in 6 finals in 2011 on 3 different surfaces. Tony said that they had no answer how to beat Djokovic, because they couldn't find weak spot, unlike Federer's backhand which is a weak spot and on top of that Nadal being lefty and hitting massive top spins when playing forehand, which goes to Federer's backhand. In AO 2019 finals Djokovic hit around 70% balls in entire match to Nadal's forehand while all previous players hit 70% of all balls to Nadal's backhand, because hitting balls to Nadal's forehand is a suicide mission for everyone else, but not for Djokovic. Go watch highlights from AO 2019 finals and even in highlights you will see that Djokovic was sending balls constantly to Nadal's forehand.

I have been a Federer fan for so long.... But no one can ever deny Djokovic's achievements... He has been a machine and is strong mentally and physically... Even considering the fact that the crowd is usually against him... This guy has done wonders now... He has beaten Rafa twice in Roland Garros... He is dethroning the kings in their respective Grand Slams... Rafa in Roland Garros and Roger in Wimbledon... Just 2 more slams and he will be known as the official GOAT... He still can be considered as the GOAT but he just has to lead in the Grand Slams and then no one can deny his GOAT status Bravo Nole

@MeNziBoy Dopal? Pfft, Rafa has always been the most professional player on the court. Ever seen him smash a racquet? Nope. So it’s hilarious whenever someone has to say Dopal like that means anything whatsoever. Rafa has never cheated in his life, he’s not Sharapova, so I suggest you get your facts straight before preemptively false finger pointing. Clay is Rafa’s territory, so by all means doubt Rafa at your peril.
