Wow, I am a spanish speaker who's learning English since 3 months ago, and I'm impressed that I could understand the most of the video, I love how you talk like calmly and slowly and I can get it the most times, all I can say is thank you, you are really helping me with this learning process
Great job to James and the team! I was recently binge watching ELvids animators and theOdd1sOut came up a lot. Looking back just two years vs looking at the quality animation now, you can see a lot of amazing progress when it comes to settings and animation. The addition of lots of color to the vids really make the vids so high quality and so nice to watch! As an animation lover, I am so proud of what the team has accomplished and where they will go next!
In actuality, I was there for 5 stars, I was there for annotations, I was there for the yellow sub button, and I was also there for video responses. Gen Z is not as young as people think.
I am a gen z'er and I've never experienced late 90s to 2000s internet but I somehow understand everything you said about pre-2010s internet, the internet without social media is definitely like cereal without milk but there's alot more options to spend your time online without that "brainrotting algorithm monster" on your fingertips
@Chad 007 YOU JUST BEEN HIT BY THE DUCK TRUCK, STOP THE SPAM AND YOU WILL GET 10 YEARS OF LUCK *ignore this and the user behind the spam will be hit by a truck*
i like social media, i mean without it i probably wouldnt been intrested in so many new things and im sure a lot of people can relate no matter how much people hate the internet. i wish there was a balance with social media and sites made by people but thats probably in the past though so it is what it is. in the future there will probably be new things replacing social media and other forms of soical media.
Hebrews 12:14 Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. Acts 3:19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, James 2:24,26 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
Before wide scale access to the internet, dial-up bulletin board systems (BBS's) were the only option other than running a program on your computer. ELvids has some videos about them. I grew up long before computers or the internet or smartphones, or wireless phones. I'm basically a fossil. Any questions?
Its so sad seeing an "animator" have 26 people animate, draw, and storyboard a whole episode for him, while animators like Amelia Bothe and Mayde do the same thing but by themselves. Man I used to love your videos, and even if they were low quality I still enjoyed them, because you had done them yourself with your own style and thought, not with a bunch of underrated and underpaid animators at your heals...
The internet has sure changed and (probably) will remain the same. I may be a Gen Z guy who grew up with Windows XP/Vista, but there’s a lot of nostalgia I had that some of y’all had as well.

Weird story - my mom was actually one of the first kids who “grew up with the internet”. Throughout her childhood (which was the late 70s and the 80s) her dad, my grandfather, was a well-known computer science professor at multiple colleges. Therefore, he and his family always had a computer, so my mom and her brother (my uncle) actually used computers in a time where they really weren’t a thing. Because of this, people would always ask my grandfather if he was helping with the creation of the robot apocalypse. No joke.
I loved this video! I am glad you are still making more and making the show! I have watched every video you’ve ever made and every episode in the show and I love how much your channel has grown! I am starting my own channel and am looking for some tips, can you help? And how can I send you my fanart?
My first internet speed was 54kb and i was soo glad my parents chose speed one 😌 I'm 00' but I'm from Poland so we were behind most of the east world 😅
I was born in 2000 and I've experienced everything in this video. I think a lot of the tech and culture from the 90s stayed for the early 2000s because everything you said was nostalgic. Nowadays I try to harness that nostalgia to remind me that there were things in my childhood that were fun. Great video and I like your shoelaces ;3
300 years from now historians will be looking at our time of the early internet like we look at the collapse of the bronze age. The internet really has brought on a whole new age of human history
I was born in 1994 when I first discovered the internet it was amazing sometimes when it's my night time and I'm supposed to go to sleep I go on the internet for a little until I want to watch some ELvids and the internet has changed me so much and the internet has changed for all these years since it was released
I was born in 1993, and I also grew up with the internet. Before ELvids, Deviantart, and all that other stuff, I just play a lot of flash games and use MS Paint and played my other PC games. Around the late 2000s and early 2010's, aside from ELvids and Deviantart, I download music and play classic games on emulators I downloaded. There is much of my life I need to improve, but I will make it through. And I'm still learning new things each day. Glad I grew up with the internet.
THANK YOU ODD1SOUT THANK YOU FOR BRINGING UP SUCH A MASTERPIECE OF A GAME THAT I HAD WHEN I WAS 5 5:51 I heckin love that game i was wishing someone would ever bring it up
I was born in 93 and yeah I remember all this stuff. Including dial up internet. Had to ask my mom if i could use the internet in case she was expecting a call or something. And wow I forgot about it but yeah I do kinda miss the fun site explorations where your cursor would turn into different things like mentioned at 2:31. I mostly spent my time on DBZ forums and then when Naruto came out I went to Naruto forums. Sometimes I miss the simplicity of those days. But things can be more convenient now for sure.
That 3x3 scramble at 1:42 is theoretically impossible due to there being a blue-white-green corner. This irritates me. Anyway, great animation! Amazing video.
I was born in 2001, so yeah, I do remember that five-star rating system... ah the early days of ELvids when everything was either animals doing funny things or Shane Dawson

@Unstable Animationsi mean it makes sense to have the videos insanely well structured and storyboarded every single upload. not saying you arent qualified to comment on this but like i think its far different for him considering his absolutely massive following that he has to consistently impress every time
It really hasn't. His animation is the same boring half-assed animatics it always was. Now, with no excuses why he can't fully animate every scene. Coming from a YT animator myself, I see no reason why he skims the production on the one thing he's supposedly famous for.
Anyone else notice TheOdd1sOut has been including more perspective in his videos?? It looks great and to do that with animation?!? That's crazy to me!! I've been trying to add more perspective to my drawings and it's difficult, especially when the foot ends up looking bigger than the actual leg 💀 You have to get it just right and you've come super far James!!!! Keep it up I'm a huge fan. Yes I'm aware it's strange to some people that I called him james but it's easier to type that. "Oh but you typed an essay in the comments" I know😳
I was born in the year 2000. I remember some of this stuff. Computer games look completely different from when I wad a kid and I remember space cadet pinball and ms paint
Ok I'm not a millennial I'm a Gen Z but I can't even begin to explain the excitement I felt at 5:56. I loved pinball!!! I could spend hours on this game when I was younger.

Hey dude, in Brazilian and I'm using your videos to learn more english, I use your videos because besides having many different subjects, they are fun and grab attention. Thanks bro
It's actually really cool to hear what the Internet used to be like. I really like everything about this video from the details in the story to the drawings

To me he's only gone downhill in the recent years. His stories now feel more chosen for the viewers, instead of him just telling something he wanted to tell. Something like soubway can never happen again because well who's going to watch James tell a story about some random thing he once did that they cannot directly relate to.
Same! That’s all I was thinking about while watching this video. I know he literally came out with an animated Netflix show but it still surprises me how far he’s come lol.
"You grew up with the internet, we grew up WITH the internet." as a Gen Z kid whose parents were (and still are) hippies I really feel like my parents tried as hard as they could to keep me off of the internet while living in a suburban neighborhood and working jobs that included the internet. Until my younger sister showed up and they needed a way to keep all children 3 busy. I do not wish for a better childhood and I wouldn't change a thing. UNTIL COVID CAME AROUND AND SCREWED EVERYTHING UP!!!! lol jk i still have an awesome life.
I may be a Gen Z kid, but DAMN, nostalgia hit hard when James talked about how old youtube looks like cuz I still managed to see that when I was young. I spent an unhealthy amount playing space cadet pinball, and boy OH BOY MS paint, I loved that thing hahaha. I love this video, the quality and the animation is so expressive 💖👌
i remember using my dad's windows xp pc as a kid with like 5 games on it and no internet (because the date was always wrong) and still having fun fun fact: im 11 and a half years old
Not gonna lie all your vids be so true tho- I mean like yes the internet is an extremely good resource the world has to offer, but that also means there is more room for more ppl to scam hack and bully.
I think I know why odd1sout isn't uploading frequently for 2 reasons. 1, it takes time to animate,2 it's because he's running out of life to talk about
Yeah, I almost don't remember what it is like to not have anything to do anymore. So much of my childhood was spent not having anything to do and having to go outside for fun. It was nice to grow up with kind of the internet mindset and also having to go outside.
Eh, yes and no. Yes, because the Internet and social media has changed a lot of things to how people connect with each other/communicate and (in some ways) how we express ourselves, but in most other societal ways that people think of, there's some things that were always there that people forget or don't realize. For example, crappy people in the world have always existed, it's just the avenues they could use to express themselves now are easier to access a bit then there used to be.
Advantage of being born during 1996, though I miss the early 2000s since there where a lot more creativity during that time. Nowadays the internet is extremely sterilized the filtration has made it less interesting since experimentation with new content does not really exist anymore. I miss those flash animations and games. It feels like it is the same content with different coat of paint, my guess is because people are overworked or youtubes guidelines has halted the ability to create new content.

As a fellow Millennial and computer technician, I would like to mention that while you stated internet was a blazing 1 Megabyte per second, that isn't exactly 100% true. It was 1 MegaBIT per second (1MB and 1Mb are two separate things that can convert into each other), which I will admit was super fast and amazing for it's time considering we were upgrading from the 56K modem and no longer had to worry about a phone call killing our internet connection, but 1 megabit is actually a download speed of 125KB (kilobytes) per second. Which needless to say is what you generally get today if your internet is not working correctly. Back then though, 125KB/s was considered super fast, and could download what was required pretty quickly in comparison to any alternative, and it was the first time I experienced hassle-free online gaming. Today it wouldn't really work, but we didn't have 100GB downloads back then. Primarily because we didn't have 100GB hard drives back then. When I was younger, my first computer had a 1GB hard drive and could switch between Windows 95 and DOS OS (although I have also used computers older than that, with less storage, and more DOS oriented). That's it. I eventually managed to upgrade to a 10GB, but that was years later. I also still have/use my old @hotmail.com email address that was created back when MSN messenger was brand new. God I'm getting so much older the longer I type...
There is a 5 years gap in my usage of the internet. Because unlike you, I once met a weirdo when I was little (actually 2 weirdos). I'm only back since late 2021 because months of social distancing had gotten me to the brink of insanity, and it would be cruel and unusual to keep me away for a moment longer.
@GlitchyZoo Entertainments I think so too. I used to do a bit of animation which is why I am very impressed by this boost of quality It looks like it took awhile to make
When space cadet pinball came on I started trying to make the sound it was making I have no idea why (Also the nostalgia of Space Cadet Pinball I love it)
